| Michael P. Freije is Legal Counsel and Manager of the Boat Liability Claims, Property Claims and Total Loss and Theft Units at GEICO Marine Insurance Company. Michael earned his B.S. from James Madison University and his J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, where he was an Assistant Editor of the Law Review and a Moot Court Associate. He is admitted to practice in Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, several U.S. District Courts and U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Michael is also a member of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute (SEALI) and is designated as a Proctor in Admiralty by the Maritime Law Association (MLAUS). Prior to joining BoatU.S. in early 2012, Michael spent nearly 13 years in private practice as a trial attorney litigating jury and non-jury cases in federal and state courts throughout D.C., Maryland and Virginia. His practice involved all aspects of civil litigation and insurance matters with a concentration on the defense of legal professionals in complex malpractice matters. As an avid boater spending many weekends on the Chesapeake Bay, Michael feels fortunate to be able to combine his legal education and experience with his love for the water in his current practice of admiralty and maritime law. |
